ABSTRACT
The organizational structure of the Study Program Management Unit (UPPS) in Islamic postgraduate education continues to face challenges arising from a tendency toward rigid hierarchical bureaucracy, which may constrain organizational agility while overlooking the philosophical foundations of Islamic education. This study aims to formulate an ideal organizational structure for the UPPS in Islamic postgraduate education through a philosophical-managerial study of the literature on Islamic organizational design. Employing a qualitative approach with a library research design, data were collected from various primary and secondary sources, with priority given to publications from the past five years, and analyzed using content analysis. The synthesis of the literature indicates the need for a transformation toward a more agile organizational structure through the formulation of the “Collegial-Prophetic Matrix Model,” which is built upon four value pillars of Islamic management philosophy: Syura, Amanah, Ukhuwah Ilmiyah, and Itqan. The model translates Syura into the strengthening of the Postgraduate Senate, Amanah into the repositioning of UPPS leaders as facilitators (khadim), Ukhuwah Ilmiyah into a collaborative matrix structure between study programs and disciplinary clusters, and Itqan into the strengthening of the Quality Assurance Group. Conceptually, the model integrates structural accountability with horizontal collaboration and quality assurance to establish UPPS governance that is more responsive to academic demands and accreditation standards. In conclusion, the Collegial-Prophetic Matrix Model is a conceptual formulation that shifts the organizational structure from a rigid hierarchical orientation toward a more collaborative and responsive design while integrating prophetic values into the governance of Islamic higher education.
