Abstract

Anemia among pregnant women remains a public health problem that affects maternal and fetal health. One effort to prevent anemia is to ensure adequate iron (Fe) intake, which is influenced by various factors, including the roles of family members and health workers. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between family and health worker roles and iron (Fe) intake adequacy among pregnant women in the working area of Munda Public Health Center, Bima City. This study employed a cross-sectional design with a purposive sampling approach involving 55 pregnant women. Data were collected using questionnaires and a 24-hour food recall and analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level. The results showed that 61.8% of pregnant women had inadequate iron intake, while 80.0% reported inadequate family support and 76.4% reported inadequate health worker support. The main finding was that both family roles and health worker roles were significantly associated with iron intake adequacy among pregnant women (p<0.001). Pregnant women with inadequate family support had 30.000 times higher odds of having inadequate iron intake (OR=30.000; 95% CI=3.439–261.690), while inadequate health worker support was associated with 17.600 times higher odds of inadequate iron intake (OR=17.600; 95% CI=3.328–93.084). Therefore, strengthening the roles of families and health workers through nutrition education, counseling, and family involvement is necessary to improve iron intake adequacy and support anemia prevention among pregnant women.
