ABSTRACT
Punch speed is an important component in Muay Thai because it is closely related to attack effectiveness, scoring opportunities, and the ability to pressure opponents during matches. This study aimed to analyze the effect of punch drill training using 1 kg dumbbells and resistance bands on improving punching speed among Raja Muay Thai Mataram athletes in 2023. The study employed an experimental method with a two-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 20 active athletes who were divided into two groups using the ordinal pairing technique based on the pretest results. The first group received jab punch training using 1 kg dumbbells, while the second group used resistance bands. The training program was conducted for six weeks with a frequency of three sessions per week. Data were collected using a 30-second jab punch speed test and analyzed using a t-test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that both forms of training had a significant effect on improving the athletes’ punching speed. Training using dumbbells produced a slightly higher average improvement compared to resistance bands. The findings indicate that both training methods can be used as effective, practical, and specific alternatives for improving jab punch performance in Muay Thai athletes.
ABSTRAK
Kecepatan pukulan merupakan salah satu komponen penting dalam olahraga Muay Thai karena berhubungan dengan efektivitas serangan, peluang memperoleh poin, dan kemampuan menekan lawan selama pertandingan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh latihan drill pukulan menggunakan dumbbell 1 kg dan resistance band terhadap peningkatan kecepatan memukul atlet Raja Muay Thai Mataram tahun 2023. Penelitian menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan desain two group pretest-posttest design. Sampel penelitian terdiri atas 20 atlet aktif yang dibagi menjadi dua kelompok menggunakan teknik ordinal pairing berdasarkan hasil pretest. Kelompok pertama diberikan latihan pukulan jab menggunakan dumbbell 1 kg, sedangkan kelompok kedua menggunakan resistance band. Program latihan dilaksanakan selama enam minggu dengan frekuensi tiga kali per minggu. Pengukuran dilakukan menggunakan tes kecepatan pukulan jab selama 30 detik dan data dianalisis menggunakan uji-t pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua bentuk latihan memberikan pengaruh signifikan terhadap peningkatan kecepatan memukul atlet. Latihan menggunakan dumbbell menghasilkan peningkatan rata-rata yang sedikit lebih tinggi dibandingkan resistance band. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua metode latihan dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif latihan yang efektif, praktis, dan spesifik untuk meningkatkan performa pukulan jab pada atlet Muay Thai.
