ABSTRACT
Generation Z is a highly active group of social media users with increased exposure to social evaluative pressures. This study aims to examine the relationship between fear of negative evaluation (FNE) and emotional expressivity within the context of social media use among Generation Z, as well as to explore differences based on gender. A quantitative correlation was conducted with 224 participants aged 17–28 years who were active social media users. FNE was measured using the Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation (BFNE), while emotional expressivity was assessed using the Berkeley Expressivity Questionnaire (BEQ). Descriptive analysis indicated that both variables were at moderate levels. Kolmogorov–Smirnov tests showed that the data were not normally distributed (p < 0.001), leading to the use of Spearman’s rho for correlation analysis. The findings revealed a significant negative relationship between FNE and emotional expressivity, suggesting that individuals with higher fear of negative evaluation tend to express emotions less in digital environments. Additionally, no significant gender differences were found for both variables. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of emotional dynamics among Generation Z in digital spaces its emotional expressivity.
