Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study aims to examine the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in enhancing adolescents’ mental resilience amid increasing psychological pressures during the developmental stage of adolescence. Although numerous studies have explored adolescent mental health, research specifically investigating the contribution of Islamic Religious Education to strengthening mental resilience remains limited. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving 15 participants consisting of adolescents, Islamic Religious Education teachers, and religious activity mentors. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that Islamic Religious Education plays a significant role in strengthening adolescents’ mental resilience through the internalization of Islamic values such as patience (sabr), gratitude (shukr), trust in God (tawakkul), and positive thinking (husnuzan), which function as coping strategies for dealing with stress and social pressures. Religious practices, including prayer, remembrance of God (dhikr), and Qur’an recitation, were also found to support emotional regulation and promote psychological well-being. The main finding indicates that the integration of spiritual values, moral development, and religious social support forms a more holistic model for strengthening adolescents’ mental resilience. Therefore, Islamic Religious Education serves not only as a means of religious instruction but also as an effective approach to promoting mental health and developing adolescents’ capacity to cope with the challenges of modern life.
