PENERAPAN CHOICE THEORY DAN REALITY THERAPY SISTEM WDEP UNTUK MENGATASI KESULITAN KEPUTUSAN KARIER SISWA SMA

Career selection was one of the crucial developmental tasks for high school students as they considered further education and their future. In daily life, many students experienced confusion in determining their college major direction that aligned with their interests, talents, potentials, and life goals. Given the confusion that students faced, guidance and counseling were essential to help students understand themselves and make career decisions in a more planned and appropriate manner. This study aimed to analyze the application of choice theory and reality therapy using the WDEP system (Want, Doing, Evaluation, Planning) to assist high school students in decisionmaking. Using a qualitative approach, this research employed a case study method on a student who experienced confusion in determining their career path. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, counseling observations, and documentation of session notes. The findings demonstrated that the application of choice theory and reality therapy through the WDEP system successfully helped the participant overcome obstacles in determining their career direction. This intervention triggered a paradigm shift from external control psychology to internal control psychology, as evidenced by the growth of personal responsibility without being bound by academic performance constraints. Furthermore, the participant successfully designed a realistic career plan based on their interests, talents, and family approval.
ABSTRAK
Pemilihan karir merupakan salah satu tugas pada perkembangan krusial bagi siswa sekolah menengah atas (SMA) saat pertimbangkan pendidikan lanjutan dan masa depan mereka. Dalam kehidupan sehari-hari banyak siswa yang mengalami kebingungan dalam menentukan arah jurusan kuliah yang sesuai dengan minat bakat, potensi serta tujuan hidupnya. Kebingungan yang terjadi pada siswa sehingga pentingnya bimbingan dan konseling untuk membantu siswa dalam memahami diri serta menentukan keputusan karir supaya lebih terencana dan sesuai. Pada penelitian ini mempunyai tujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan Choice Theory dan Reality Therapy dengan menggunakan sistema WDEP (Want, Doing, Evaluation, Planning) untuk membantu siswa SMA dalam mengambil suatu keputusan. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, penelitian ini menerapkan metode studi kasus terhadap seorang siswa yang mengalami kebingungan dalam menentukan pilihan karir nya. Penelitian inin menggunakan metode wawancara mendalam, observasi konseling, dan studi dokumentasi catatan sesi sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Temuan studi membuktikan bahwa penerapan Choice Theory dan Reality Therapy lewat sistem WDEP berhasil membantu partisipan mengatasi hambatan dalam menentukan arah karir. Intervensi ini memicu pergeseran paradigma dari external control psychology ke internal control psychology, yang terlihat dari tumbuhnya tanggung jawab pribadi tanpa terikat pada kendala nilai akademik. Selain itu, partisipan berhasil merancang perencanaan karir yang realistis berbasis pencapaian minat, bakat, serta restu keluarga.
