ABSTRACT
The development of digital technology has expanded access to academic information, but such convenience has not always been accompanied by the strengthening of critical reading and writing literacy. This study aimed to examine the reading and writing literacy culture of students in the Sociology Education Study Program in the digital era, particularly their reading behavior, writing practices, and use of scholarly sources. This qualitative study employed a digital ethnography method. The participants were 19 students of Universitas Hamzanwadi selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings showed that students increasingly relied on electronic journals, e-books, Google Scholar, digital libraries, and AI in their literacy activities. However, easy access also encouraged brief reading, task-oriented writing, and dependence on instant information. Students' abilities to verify sources and use AI critically varied. The findings indicate that literacy culture is a social practice shaped by habits, digital capital, academic demands, and the academic environment. Literacy development should promote deep reading, independent writing, information evaluation, and responsible AI use.
