ABSTRACT
This study was motivated by the low numeracy skills of children aged 5–6 years, indicating the need for engaging learning media appropriate to children’s developmental characteristics. Block play was chosen as a learning medium because it helps children recognize number concepts, improve concentration, and stimulate cognitive development in numeracy learning through enjoyable activities. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of block play on the cognitive ability of numeracy concepts among children aged 5–6 years at TK Yazida NW Tangar in the 2019/2020 academic year. This research employed a quantitative approach with an experimental design. The population consisted of 40 students, while the sample included 15 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. The data were analyzed using the t-test to determine the effect of block play on children’s numeracy abilities. The results showed that block play had a positive effect on early childhood numeracy skills. Children became more active, were able to recognize number concepts more easily, and showed greater interest in participating in numeracy learning activities after the implementation of block play activities. The findings indicate that the use of educational play media can help improve children’s cognitive abilities, particularly in understanding basic numeracy concepts in early childhood education.
