The increasing integration of smartphones into students’ daily activities not only supports their academic needs but can also disrupt the quality of face-to-face interactions. In higher education settings, excessive smartphone use while communicating with lecturers and peers may cause students to ignore their interlocutors and focus more on their digital devices, a behavior known as phubbing. This condition highlights the need to strengthen students’ understanding of ethical, proportional, and responsible technology use through the learning process. One approach that can be employed is the integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) values into Social Studies learning as a pedagogical strategy to reduce students’ phubbing behavior. This article aims to examine the integration of Sustainable Development Goals values into Social Studies learning as a pedagogical strategy to reduce students’ phubbing behavior at Universitas Negeri Semarang. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a conceptual study design based on library research. The analysis focuses on the conceptual relationship among sustainable development values, Social Studies learning, digital ethics, and students’ social behavior. The findings indicate that the values of healthy life and well-being, quality education, sustainable communities, responsible digital consumption, peaceful communication, and partnership have substantive relevance in shaping students’ awareness of ethical, proportional, and responsible technology use. The integration of these values can be actualized through problem orientation, reflective dialogue, collaborative learning, social projects, digital ethics agreements, and participatory assessment. This study affirms that Social Studies learning based on Sustainable Development Goals values has the potential to serve as a strategic medium for strengthening students’ critical awareness, empathy, social responsibility, and digital ethics, thereby contributing to the reduction of phubbing behavior in academic interactions.
