Abstract

The highest rate of web-based platform adoption occurs in the higher education sector, with 76% of institutions in Latin America and 59% in Africa using Google or Microsoft services, highlighting the urgency to understand the research landscape of web-based learning resources. This study presents a bibliometric analysis of 282 Scopus-indexed publications from 2000 to 2024 focusing on web-based learning resources in higher education. Using R-Biblioshiny, VoS Viewer, and OpenRefine, the study maps thematic trends, author collaborations, and geographic research distribution. Results show an annual publication growth rate of 2.27% and an average of 17.9 citations per document. The United States leads in research output, followed by Australia, the UK, China, and Turkey. “e-learning” and “human” emerge as dominant themes, while “curricula” shows declining relevance. Author collaboration mapping reveals eight clusters, one of which stands out for its interdisciplinary collaboration intensity. This study offers a comprehensive intellectual mapping of the field and underscores the importance of international collaboration and digital inclusivity in shaping the future of technology-enhanced higher education.
