ABSTRACT
The development of digital technology requires early childhood learning to foster logical, systematic, and problem-solving skills from an early age. One of the abilities relevant to these needs is Computational Thinking. However, the integration of visual-based coding activities in early childhood education has not been widely implemented in accordance with children’s developmental characteristics. This study aims to determine the effect of coding-based learning using the Code.org platform on improving early childhood Computational Thinking skills. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method. The subjects consisted of 40 Group B children at TK Negeri Pembina Mataram, including 20 children in the experimental class and 20 children in the control class. Data were collected through pretest, posttest, and treatment observation using four indicators: decomposition, pattern recognition, algorithmic thinking, and debugging. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality test, homogeneity test, N-Gain, and Paired Sample T-Test. The results showed an increase in the experimental class mean score from 45.63 to 65.00, with a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05. These results indicate that Code.org-based learning has a significant effect on improving early childhood Computational Thinking skills. The implication of this study suggests that Code.org can serve as an alternative technology-based learning platform that is visual, interactive, and appropriate to children’s developmental characteristics.
