Abstract

ABSTRACT

Education is a fundamental pillar for national development. Indonesia currently faces a crucial challenge: a significant gap between graduate competencies and the real demands of the Business and Industrial Sectors (DUDI) and society. This article aims to thoroughly review the root causes, impacts, and strategic steps to bridge this gap, focusing on the relevance of the national education system, including the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in character and competency development. The methodology employed is a qualitative literature review (library research), with stages including: (1) Identification of competency gap data, (2) Analysis of PAI’s role in integrating soft skills and character, and (3) Formulation of a strategic model for educational revitalization. The main findings indicate that the root problems lie in curriculum misalignment, a lack of practical experience (internships/practicum), and the sub-optimal integration of PAI in fostering essential soft skills (work ethic, critical thinking, collaboration). The study concludes that graduates who combine strong moral integrity (from PAI) with technical competencies and Industry 4.0 soft skills (digital literacy and adaptability) possess a competitive edge in the job market. The conclusion emphasizes that the revitalization of the Indonesian education system is an imperative necessity. Strategic steps must include DUDI-based curriculum redesign, strengthening the link and match scheme, and optimizing PAI as a vehicle for essential character and soft skills formation. This study is expected to provide a comprehensive understanding of the urgency of making the education system more responsive to professional and social needs dynamics.
