Abstract

ABSTRACK

Interpersonal communication is an important aspect of students’ interactions in the school environment. However, some students still experience difficulties in expressing their opinions and feelings, responding appropriately during interactions, and understanding other people’s conditions. This condition indicates the importance of considering emotional intelligence as an aspect related to students’ interpersonal communication skills. This study aimed to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and interpersonal communication among eleventh-grade Social Studies students at SMA Negeri 4 Mataram in the 2026/2027 academic year. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational research design. The population consisted of 60 students, all of whom were selected as the sample using total sampling. Data were collected using emotional intelligence and interpersonal communication questionnaires with a four-point Likert scale. The instruments were consulted and revised based on guidance from the academic supervisor until they were considered suitable for use. Data were analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation with the assistance of SPSS. The results showed a correlation coefficient of 0.676 with a significance value of 0.000, indicating a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and interpersonal communication, with a strong correlation. These findings indicate that students with better emotional intelligence tend to have better interpersonal communication skills.
