Abstract

ABSTRACT

The changing digital media ecosystem has made it insufficient for local media merely to provide information; they must also sustain continuous relationships with their audiences. Koranbuleleng.com faces several challenges, including fluctuating visits, inconsistent publication, limited human resources, and the dominant use of social media as a distribution channel. This study examines the factors that hinder reader engagement, the digital communication strategies implemented, and their implications for media–audience relationships. A qualitative approach with a descriptive narrative design was employed. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of editorial activities, the website, and social media channels, and were analyzed through data reduction, thematic organization, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that publication continuity, human resource capacity, distribution patterns, and interaction are interconnected elements in managing engagement. Koranbuleleng.com’s digital communication strategy integrates four dimensions: message and content management, platform utilization, distribution management, and interaction with readers, supported by audience analytics and local media identity. This approach provides a basis for strengthening sustainable media–audience relationships through adaptive digital strategies while maintaining the distinctive characteristics of local journalism.
