Abstract

ABSTRACT

Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSMF) is a chronic, progressive, and potentially malignant disorder of the oral cavity that predominantly affects individuals with habitual betel quid chewing practices in rural populations. This study developed the ARECA Analyzer as a non-invasive preliminary screening prototype based on salivary Ph determination utilizing natural anthocyanin immobilized from red cabbage extract (Brassica oleracea var. capitata f. rubra). The colorimetric response of the fabricated paper strip was captured via an optical camera and processed through a web application utilizing an automated RGB (Red-Green-Blue) interpretation algorithm. Experimental evaluations across standard buffer solutions ranging from Ph 5 to 8 demonstrated distinct and reproducible chromatic transitions with an intra-assay variation under 5%. Quantitative validation against a calibrated digital Ph meter showed high analytic performance with an average deviation of  units and an accuracy level of 97.25%. The web system successfully translated color transitions into digital Ph readouts and categorized health risk profiles accompanied by preliminary dietary recommendations. In conclusion, the ARECA Analyzer proves effective as a natural, low-cost proof-of-concept colorimetric tool for detecting salivary Ph shifts, serving as a functional preliminary stage prior to formal clinical examinations.
