ABSTRACT
Cervical cancer can have lasting effects on physical activity, fatigue, and quality of life, making complementary approaches that can be adapted to patients’ conditions worthy of more focused investigation. This review examined evidence on the effectiveness of gentle yoga for functional capacity and quality of life in patients with cervical cancer, while considering intervention characteristics and the patterns of outcomes assessed. A narrative review approach was conducted through searches of PubMed, Scopus, and ScienceDirect for English-language publications from 2021 to 2026. Selection followed PICOS criteria and the PRISMA 2020 framework, yielding 11 publications comprising seven primary studies and four systematic reviews/meta-analyses. Only three primary studies directly involved patients with cervical cancer, whereas the other eight publications served as supporting evidence from gynecologic cancer populations or broader cancer populations. The most consistent findings concerned reductions in stress, anxiety, depression, and cancer-related fatigue, along with improvements in some domains of quality of life. In contrast, evidence regarding objective functional capacity remained limited; one study found no significant difference in physical functioning (p = 0.390), and no study used the 6MWT or Functional Reach Test as a primary indicator. Thus, the benefits of gentle yoga in cervical cancer are primarily supported for psychological outcomes and quality of life, while generalization to functional capacity requires further research using objective measures of physical performance.
