PENGARUH KONSELING KELOMPOK TEKNIK MODELING TERHADAP PERILAKU KONSUMTIF PADA SISWA KELAS XI

ABSTRACT

The tendency to make purchases based on momentary desires rather than actual needs is frequently observed among students in Grade XI Social Sciences at SMAN 1 Praya, particularly when trends and social pressure influence their consumption decisions. This condition motivated the present study, which aimed to determine the effect of group counseling using the modeling technique on the consumptive behavior of Grade XI Social Sciences students at SMAN 1 Praya. Eight students who demonstrated high consumptive behavior scores were selected through purposive sampling and participated in six counseling sessions, during which the counselor directly demonstrated more rational consumption patterns for the participants to observe, discuss, and practice in various shopping situations. A one-group pretest-posttest design was employed to capture these changes, using a 21-item questionnaire with a four-point Likert scale as the measurement instrument, while the collected scores were analyzed descriptively and tested using a paired-samples t-test. The mean consumptive behavior score decreased by 15.25 points, resulting in a shift in the group category from high to moderate, with a statistically significant difference, t(7) = −18.158, p < 0.001, accompanied by a very large effect size, Cohen's dz ≈ 6.42, which is consistent with the pattern of decline observed across all participants. The absence of a control group and the limited number of participants mean that these findings are more appropriately interpreted as preliminary evidence rather than definitive evidence of a causal relationship.

Kecenderungan membeli berdasarkan keinginan sesaat, bukan kebutuhan, banyak dijumpai pada siswa kelas XI IPS SMAN 1 Praya, terutama ketika tren dan tekanan lingkungan sosial ikut bermain dalam keputusan konsumsi mereka. Kondisi inilah yang mendorong penelitian ini dilakukan, dengan tujuan mengetahui pengaruh konseling kelompok teknik modeling terhadap perilaku konsumtif siswa kelas XI IPS di SMAN 1 Praya. Delapan siswa yang menunjukkan skor konsumtif kategori tinggi dipilih melalui purposive sampling, kemudian mengikuti enam sesi layanan di mana konselor memperagakan langsung pola konsumsi yang lebih rasional untuk diamati, didiskusikan, dan dilatih ulang oleh peserta dalam berbagai situasi belanja. Desain one-group pretest-posttest dipakai untuk menangkap perubahan tersebut, dengan angket 18 item berskala Likert empat tingkat sebagai alat ukurnya, lalu skor yang terkumpul diolah secara deskriptif dan diuji lewat paired-samples t-test. Rata-rata skor perilaku konsumtif turun 15,25 poin, membawa kategori kelompok bergeser dari tinggi ke sedang, dengan perbedaan yang signifikan secara statistik, t(7) = −18,158, p < 0,001, disertai ukuran efek yang tergolong sangat besar, Cohen's dz ≈ 6,42, sebuah kondisi yang wajar mengingat pola penurunan berlangsung konsisten pada seluruh peserta. Ketiadaan kelompok kontrol serta jumlah peserta yang terbatas membuat temuan ini lebih tepat dibaca sebagai indikasi awal, bukan kepastian hubungan sebab akibat.
