Abstract

Parental divorce can be a source of emotional pressure for adolescents, making the ability to regulate emotions important in dealing with post-divorce family conditions. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-compassion and emotion regulation among high school adolescents with divorced parents in Gorontalo Regency. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design and purposive sampling technique. After data cleaning, 147 students aged 15–17 years were included in the analysis. Self-compassion was measured using a 48-item scale based on the dimensions of self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness, while emotion regulation was measured using a 31-item scale based on Gross’s emotion-regulation processes. Data were analyzed using JASP through descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk test, and Spearman’s rho correlation. The mean self-compassion score was 161.0 (SD = 18.11), while the mean emotion-regulation score was 109.0 (SD = 12.02). The normality test indicated that both variables were not normally distributed (p < .001). Hypothesis testing showed a significant positive relationship between self-compassion and emotion regulation (ρ = .4997, p < .001), with a moderate correlation strength. Therefore, there was a significant positive relationship between self-compassion and emotion regulation among adolescents with divorced parents in Gorontalo Regency.

Setelah dilakukan pembersihan data, sebanyak 147 siswa berusia 15–17 tahun dianalisis. Self-compassion diukur menggunakan skala 48 aitem berdasarkan aspek self-kindness, common humanity, dan mindfulness, sedangkan regulasi emosi diukur menggunakan skala 31 aitem berdasarkan proses regulasi emosi Gross. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan JASP melalui statistik deskriptif, uji Shapiro-Wilk, dan korelasi Spearman’s rho. Rata-rata skor self-compassion sebesar 161,0 (SD = 18,11), sedangkan rata-rata skor regulasi emosi sebesar 109,0 (SD = 12,02).
