Abstract

ABSTRACT

The low level of overhead serve ability among the volleyball team at SMPS Panca Karya Lite was reflected in suboptimal serving accuracy, strength, and execution. This study aimed to determine changes in overhead serve ability after the implementation of distance-variation training using the drill method. The study employed a quantitative experimental approach with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The participants were 15 students who comprised all members of the SMPS Panca Karya Lite volleyball team. Data were collected through an overhead serve ability test administered before and after the treatment. The training was conducted in four sessions using distances of 3 meters, 6 meters, and the back line. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test on the difference scores, and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test using SPSS version 24. The results showed an increase in the mean overhead serve score from 9.20 to 13.73. The Wilcoxon test indicated a difference in overhead serve ability before and after the treatment (p < 0.001), with a large effect size (r = 0.88). These findings indicate a change in overhead serve ability following distance-variation training using the drill method among the SMPS Panca Karya Lite volleyball team.
