Abstract

ABSTRACT

The growing popularity of K-Pop in Indonesia has not only expanded fandom activities in digital spaces but has also intensified the psychological attachment that some fans develop toward public figures. This variation in attachment prompted the present study to examine the relationship between Big Five Personality and Celebrity Worship among Indonesian K-Pop fans. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed, involving 1,000 K-Pop fans aged 20–25 years who belonged to one or more of the following fandoms: ARMY, BLINK, EXO-L, NCTzen, and CARAT. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, while data were collected online using a Big Five Personality scale adapted from the Big Five Inventory and a Celebrity Worship scale adapted from the Celebrity Attitude Scale. Data analysis included normality and linearity testing, followed by the Pearson Product-Moment correlation test. The findings revealed a positive and statistically significant relationship between Big Five Personality and Celebrity Worship (r = 0.222; p < 0.001), although the correlation strength was relatively weak. Among the five personality dimensions, Openness to Experience demonstrated the strongest association, followed by Neuroticism, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, and Extraversion. These findings indicate that personality contributes to the tendency toward Celebrity Worship, but it does not fully account for the phenomenon. This study extends empirical evidence regarding the role of personality in Indonesian K-Pop fandoms and provides a foundation for future research incorporating additional psychological factors.
