Abstract

ABSTRACT

The background of this research is based on the phenomenon of final-year university students who still experience uncertainty in choosing their future career paths and lack confidence in their abilities when making career-related decisions. This situation reflects the important role of the social environment in assisting students during their transition from academic life to the professional world. Although studies concerning Career Decision Making Self-Efficacy (CDMSE) have been extensively discussed, research that specifically investigates the effect of social support on CDMSE among final-year students in Medan City remains limited. Therefore, this issue became the main rationale for conducting the present study. The objective of this research was to analyze the influence of social support on Career Decision Making Self-Efficacy (CDMSE) among final-year students in Medan City.This study employed a quantitative approach using simple linear regression analysis involving 164 participants selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data were gathered using the Social Support Scale and the Career Decision Making Self-Efficacy Scale, both of which had met validity and reliability standards. The results demonstrated that social support significantly and positively affects the CDMSE of final-year students in Medan City. The findings further indicated that support received from family members, peers, and the surrounding environment plays an important role in strengthening students’ confidence in planning and deciding their future careers. The study suggests that universities should enhance social support through career guidance and counseling programs to help students become more prepared, confident, and mature in making career decisions.

ABSTRAK

Latar belakang penelitian ini berasal dari fenomena mahasiswa akhir yang masih ragu dalam menentukan arah karier dan belum memiliki keyakinan yang kuat terhadap kemampuan dirinya saat mengambil keputusan karier. Kondisi tersebut menunjukkan pentingnya faktor lingkungan sosial dalam membantu mahasiswa menghadapi transisi menuju dunia kerja. Kajian mengenai career decision making self-efficacy (CDMSE) telah banyak diteliti, namun penelitian yang secara khusus mengkaji pengaruh dukungan sosial terhadap CDMSE pada mahasiswa akhir di Kota Medan masih relatif terbatas. Kondisi tersebut menjadi dasar pentingnya pelaksanaan penelitian ini. Fokus penelitian ini adalah mengkaji pengaruh dukungan sosial terhadap career decision making self-efficacy (CDMSE) pada mahasiswa tingkat akhir di Kota Medan. Penelitian menerapkan metode kuantitatif dengan teknik analisis regresi linear sederhana pada 164 mahasiswa yang dipilih menggunakan purposive sampling. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui Skala Dukungan Sosial dan Skala Career Decision Making Self-Efficacy yang telah diuji validitas dan reliabilitasnya. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dukungan sosial memiliki pengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap CDMSE mahasiswa tingkat akhir di Kota Medan. Temuan utama penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa dukungan sosial dari keluarga, teman sebaya, serta lingkungan sekitar berkontribusi dalam meningkatkan keyakinan mahasiswa terhadap kemampuan mereka dalam merencanakan dan menentukan karier. Penelitian ini memberikan implikasi bahwa dukungan sosial perlu diperkuat melalui layanan bimbingan dan konseling karier di perguruan tinggi agar mahasiswa lebih siap menghadapi proses pengambilan keputusan karier secara matang dan percaya diri.
