ABSTRACT
The phenomenon of academic ghostwriting among students has increased alongside the rapid development of digital technology, particularly the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in academic activities. If left unaddressed, this practice risks undermining the foundations of intellectual honesty and the overall quality of educational graduates, making an integrated and in-depth examination an urgent necessity. This study aims to examine ghostwriting practices as a new challenge to academic integrity in the digital era. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive-exploratory approach through a conceptual review supported by semi-structured interviews, Likert-scale questionnaires, non-participatory observation, and document analysis. The findings reveal that AI provides considerable advantages, including assisting idea generation, improving writing structure, and enhancing task efficiency; however, its use without ethical awareness encourages ghostwriting, disguised plagiarism, and excessive technological dependency. These conditions impair students' critical thinking, creativity, and academic honesty, further worsened by low ethical literacy, academic pressure, and insufficient institutional oversight. The scientific contribution of this study lies in its integrative analytical framework linking the dimensions of ethics, cognitive change, and educational system responses to AI-based ghostwriting a nexus that remains underexplored in prior literature.
