Abstract

Spin plan calculations in yarn spinning processes require a high level of accuracy because each stage involves different and interconnected machine parameters. This study aims to develop and verify an Android based Spin Plan Calculator as a supporting medium for teaching and practicing spin plan calculations in vocational Yarn Manufacturing education. The development process included needs analysis, interface design, application implementation, functional testing, calculation verification, and user evaluation. The application covers six main processes, namely Winding, Ring Frame, Roving, Drawing Finisher, Drawing Breaker, and Carding. Functional testing was conducted on 18 main functions, while calculation verification was performed by comparing the application outputs with manual calculations using the same parameters. The results showed that all 18 tested functions operated as designed. Verification across the six processes also showed that the application results were consistent with manual calculations under the tested scenarios. User evaluation produced an overall mean score of 3.71 on a five point scale. Perceived calculation accuracy received the highest score of 4.1, while interface design received the lowest score of 3.0. These findings indicate that the application can serve as a supporting medium for teaching and practicing spin plan calculations. However, further development is still required, particularly in improving the user interface, expanding verification scenarios, and conducting broader user evaluations.
