ABSTRACT
The use of gadgets among students has increased alongside the development of the digital era and has the potential to cause addiction affecting academic, psychological, and social aspects. Previous studies have mainly examined gadget addiction from educational and psychological perspectives, while Islamic counseling approaches as an intervention remain limited. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the forms of gadget addiction among students, its impacts, and the implementation of Islamic counseling in reducing dependency. This study employed a qualitative method with a case study approach involving a high school student selected purposively based on high intensity of gadget use. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and field notes, then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings revealed that gadget use reached 8–10 hours per day, dominated by entertainment activities. This condition led to emotional dependency, decreased learning concentration, procrastination, and reduced quality of interaction with family members. The Islamic counseling approach through muhasabah, tazkiyatun nafs, worship habituation, and self-control strengthening showed potential in helping students manage gadget use more wisely. In conclusion, gadget addiction is a complex issue requiring integrated interventions through Islamic counseling as well as support from families and schools.
