HUBUNGAN ANTARA OPTIMISME DENGAN ADVERSITY QUOTIENT PADA MAHASISWA AKHIR YANG SEDANG MENGERJAKAN SKRIPSI

ABSTRACT
The preparation of a thesis is often a challenge for university students because it requires the ability to cope with academic pressure and obstacles. This situation is related to the adversity quotient, namely an individual’s capacity to face, endure, and overcome various difficulties encountered. This study was conducted to analyze the relationship between optimism and adversity quotient among final-year students who are completing their thesis at HKBP Nommensen University. A quantitative approach with a correlational research design was applied in this study involving 150 students selected through purposive sampling. The data collection instruments consisted of an optimism scale (α = 0.929) and an adversity quotient scale (α = 0.948). The relationship between variables was tested using Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis. The results showed a correlation coefficient of 0.714 and a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a positive and significant relationship between optimism and adversity quotient. The findings suggest a tendency that students with higher levels of optimism are better able to face academic obstacles during thesis writing. Thus, optimism can strengthen students’ motivation and resilience in completing their studies on time.
ABSTRAK
Penyusunan skripsi sering menjadi tantangan bagi mahasiswa karena menuntut kemampuan menghadapi tekanan dan hambatan akademik. Situasi tersebut berhubungan dengan adversity quotient, yakni kapasitas seseorang untuk menghadapi, bertahan, serta menyelesaikan berbagai hambatan yang dialami. Penelitian ini dilakukan guna menganalisis keterkaitan antara sikap optimis dengan adversity quotient pada mahasiswa semester akhir yang tengah menyelesaikan tugas skripsi di Universitas HKBP Nommensen. Pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian korelasional diterapkan dalam studi ini terhadap 150 mahasiswa yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Instrumen pengumpulan data berupa skala optimisme (α = 0,929) dan skala adversity quotient (α = 0,948). Pengujian hubungan antarvariabel dilakukan melalui analisis korelasi Pearson Product Moment. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan diperoleh koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,714 dan nilai signifikansi 0,000 (p < 0,05), yang menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif serta signifikan antara optimisme dan adversity quotient. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan adanya kecenderungan bahwa mahasiswa yang memiliki tingkat optimisme lebih tinggi mampu menghadapi hambatan akademik dengan lebih baik selama penyusunan skripsi. Dengan demikian, optimisme dapat memperkuat motivasi dan daya tahan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan studi tepat pada waktunya.
