Meta AI, Kemampuan menulis, bahasa Jerman, Schriftliche KommunikationAbstract
This study was motivated by students’ low proficiency in writing German texts, particularly in grammar use and story development. Meta AI, as an Artificial Intelligence-based technology, can be utilized as a tool to address these challenges. This study aims to (1) measure differences in students’ German writing skills before and after using Meta AI and (2) determine the extent to which Meta AI can help improve students’ German writing skills. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. The participants were students enrolled in the Schriftliche Kommunikation course at Universitas Negeri Malang, who were divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected through essay tests, writing assignments, and questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, a t-test, and Cohen’s d effect size. The results showed that students’ writing skills in the experimental group increased by 10.7 points after using Meta AI. The statistical analysis showed a significant difference in students’ writing skills before and after the treatment, with a p-value of p = 0.003 < 0.05, and Cohen’s d = 0.968, indicating a large effect. The writing assignments and questionnaire results indicated that Meta AI helped students develop ideas, enrich their vocabulary, understand the use of articles (der, die, and das), improve grammatical accuracy, and produce more structured texts. Therefore, Meta AI can serve as a supportive technology that provides gradual assistance in the German writing learning process.
