ABSTRACT
Low life satisfaction among Generation Z social media users may be associated with a high tendency to engage in social comparison due to exposure to various representations of other people’s lives in digital spaces. This study aimed to examine the relationship between social comparison and life satisfaction and to describe the levels of both variables among Generation Z social media users. The study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 158 Generation Z social media users in Indonesia selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Measure (INCOM) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), then analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman’s rho correlation. The results showed that social comparison was relatively high, whereas life satisfaction was relatively low. A significant negative relationship was found between social comparison and life satisfaction, with a strong correlation. These findings indicate that a higher tendency toward social comparison is associated with lower life satisfaction. The findings may provide a basis for future research examining other factors associated with life satisfaction among Generation Z in digital environments.
