This study aims to analyze the relationship between the duration of TikTok use and attention span in active users in young adults. The rapid development of short video-based social media platforms such as TikTok has raised concerns about its impact on cognitive aspects, especially the ability to maintain attention. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey technique and involves 155 participants who meet the criteria of 17-25 years of age and are active TikTok users. The instruments used are the Social Media Use Questionnaire (SMUQ) to measure the intensity of social media use and the Attentional Control Scale (ATTC) to measure attention span. The results of the data analysis showed a significant negative correlation between the duration of TikTok use and attention span (r = -0.404, p <0.05), which indicates that the longer the duration of TikTok use, the lower the user's attention span. And vice versa, the higher the use of TikTok, the higher the user's attention span. These findings support the view that consumption of short-duration video content can affect an individual's cognitive ability to maintain attention. This study is expected to raise awareness of the impact of excessive social media use and the importance of having moderation in using social media to maintain cognitive balance.
