Abstract

The task of a teacher in learning is to help students become more skilled at using the language being studied, often games are one of the alternative choices. There are hundreds of games and even thousands that can be used in the learning process. In fact, most students like games in their world, one of which is the game Change the Story. This research was conducted to find out whether the game Change the Story can improve students' English speaking skills. The subjects of this study were 34 grade VIII students of SMP N 1 Merbau Mataram in the 2022/2023 academic year. Based on the research data, it shows that the game Change the Story has a positive and significant effect on students' speaking ability, especially on the accuracy and fluency components. This includes the accuracy of sentences made by students and the fluency of students in producing oral sentences.

ABSTRAK
Tugas seorang guru dalam pembelajaran adalah untuk membantu siswa agar lebih terampil menggunakan bahasa yang sedang dipelajari, sering kali game menjadi salah satu alternative pilihannya. Ada ratusan game bahkan ribuan yang bisa digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran. Dalam kenyataannya, kebanyakan siswa menyukai game dalam dunia mereka, salah satunya adalah game Change the Story. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mencari tahu apakah game Change the Story dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP N 1 Merbau Mataram tahun akademik 2022/2023 yang berjumlah 34 orang. Berdasarkan data hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa game Change the Story berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa, terutama pada komponen accuracy dan fluency. Hal ini meliputi keakuratan kalimat yang dibuat oleh siswa dan kelancaran siswa dalam menghasilkan kalimat-kalimat lisan.
