Abstract

Dental healthcare professionals face a dual occupational burden involving the need for sustained fine motor precision and the management of emotional strain caused by patient anxiety (odontophobia). Furthermore, demands for aesthetic and friendly service often compel them to engage in intense emotional labor while wearing masks. This study aims to explore in depth the meaning of "flourishing" among dental healthcare professionals at the PERIGIGI Clinic in Yogyakarta, amidst the demands of emotional labor and the risk of ergonomic fatigue. Employing a qualitative approach using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), the study involved four dental healthcare professionals selected through purposive sampling. The phenomenological analysis identified seven superordinate themes describing the structure of the flourishing experience: symbiotic dental team resonance, aesthetic efficacy, deep acting behind the mask, micro-restorative rituals, human-to-human connection, micro-ergonomic resilience, and intuitive non-verbal synchronization. Flourishing among dental healthcare professionals is a motor-intuitive phenomenon heavily reliant on team synchronization and the efficacy of the medical art. The study recommends integrating ergonomic work design with team-based resilience training to maintain positive mental health within the dental clinical environment.
