Abstract

ABSTRACT

Educational transformation in the digital era requires schools not only to utilize technology as a medium for instruction but also to cultivate a culture of deep learning that encourages students to think critically, collaborate, reflect, and learn independently. This study aims to describe the implementation of digital-based learning in support of a deep learning culture at SD Negeri 009 Balikpapan Barat. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Research informants included one principal, four classroom teachers, and four students, all selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, involving data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the implementation of digital-based learning proceeded through three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. During the planning stage, the school prepared instructional materials, digital infrastructure, teacher competency development, and learning monitoring systems. In the implementation stage, the four teachers utilized various digital platforms—such as Digital Interactive Panels, Google Workspace, Canva, YouTube, Google Classroom, Quizizz, Kahoot, Gimkit, and Google Sites—to facilitate student-centered learning. Instructional practices incorporated inquiry, collaboration, discussion, presentations, problem-solving, and reflection, all of which fostered meaningful learning. During the evaluation stage, teachers engaged in instructional reflection and identified learning difficulties to inform future improvements. However, in some activities, technology was predominantly used for content delivery and quiz-based assessments, meaning that practices regarding reflection and metacognition were not yet consistently implemented. The study concludes that while digital-based learning has supported the development of a deep learning culture, there is still a need to strengthen teachers' digital pedagogical competencies so that technology can be optimally utilized to foster reflective, collaborative, and student-centered learning.
