University students face various complex and ongoing academic demands that can lead to chronic stress and ultimately result in academic burnout. One potential factor suspected to contribute to this condition is the intensity of smartphone use. This study aims to analyze the effect of smartphone use intensity on academic burnout among students of the Faculty of Psychology at Satya Wacana Christian University (UKSW). A quantitative approach was employed using a survey method and simple random sampling technique, involving 54 active students as participants. The instruments used include the School Burnout Inventory (SBI) to measure academic burnout levels, as well as a smartphone use intensity scale developed based on behavioral aspects according to Ajzen's theory. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression. The results indicate a significant but weak positive effect between smartphone use intensity and academic burnout (R = 0.309; p = 0.023), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.096. This means that smartphone use intensity explains only 9.6% of the variance in burnout. These findings suggest that although smartphone use intensity contributes to burnout, other factors such as academic pressure, self-efficacy, and social support have a more dominant influence.
