Abstract

The background to this research problem is the condition of SMAN 1 Katingan Hulu, located in a remote area with limited access, where the community is predominantly gold mining workers. This results in underdeveloped farming skills, resulting in a heavy reliance on urban vegetable supplies. However, this situation is seen as an opportunity to introduce contextual learning about food security through the innovative "MERAKIT KETAPANG" program. This research focuses on the program's implementation as an effort to increase student engagement and strengthen their character competencies. Key stages of the research used descriptive qualitative methods with a case study approach, including observation, documentation, teacher reflection, and gathering feedback from students and parents. Key findings indicate that the program successfully increased student active participation and produced tangible products. Another key finding was a significant increase in student competency, with 80% reaching the proficient stage and 20% still in the developing stage. It is concluded that the MERAKIT KETAPANG program is effective as a contextual learning model relevant to local needs.
