Abstract

The role of community empowerment is considered important in efforts to improve the quality of education in rural and urban schools with a qualitative approach. Data in this study were collected through interviews and documentation from several schools in both areas. The results of the study indicate that community involvement, both in the form of moral support, material support, and provision of additional resources, has a significant impact on student motivation and achievement, but there are fundamental differences between rural and urban areas in terms of community participation. In rural areas, the main educational challenges are limited access to information, inadequate infrastructure, low levels of community participation, and lack of time and community understanding of education policies. While in urban areas, communities have better access to information, higher participation, and infrastructure that supports educational innovation. This study concludes that improving the quality of education in rural areas requires a more inclusive and flexible approach, such as the use of appropriate technology and socialization of policies at the right time for the community. While in urban areas, the focus can be directed at developing collaborative programs with various stakeholders to strengthen the quality of education.
