Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study aims to understand adolescents' perceptions of mental health and psychological help through a qualitative descriptive approach. Adolescence is a period that is vulnerable to various psychological stresses, so an understanding of mental health is essential to improve their well-being. Data collection methods were conducted through in-depth interviews with a number of adolescents aged 15-19 years old in a high school setting. Data analysis used thematic coding techniques to identify patterns of perceptions and attitudes towards mental health and psychological help services. The results showed that adolescents have a diverse understanding of mental health, with strong social stigma and ignorance regarding the function of psychological help. Academic and social pressures were the main factors affecting their mental state, while family support and social environment played an important role in shaping positive attitudes towards help-seeking. This study recommends the need for integrated mental health education programs in schools and stigma reduction campaigns involving families and communities to create a supportive environment for adolescent mental health. The findings can serve as a basis for developing more effective policies and interventions to support young people's mental health.
