Abstract

ABSTRACT

Fast food consumption has become a widespread phenomenon among children and adolescents with serious health implications. This systematic review aims to evaluate and analyze current evidence on the impact of fast food consumption on nutritional status, metabolic parameters, psychological health, and social factors that influence consumption habits in children and adolescents. The literature reviewed included observational and interventional studies published in the last fifteen years. The review showed that fast food consumption contributes significantly to an increased risk of obesity, metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance and dyslipidemia, and mental health problems such as depression and conduct disorder. Social and environmental factors, including the influence of advertising, accessibility of fast food, and family upbringing, reinforce the consumption of these unhealthy foods. Nutrition education interventions and advertising regulation policies are effective in reducing fast food consumption and promoting healthy eating. These findings emphasize the need for a holistic and multisectoral approach to prevent health problems related to fast food consumption in children and adolescents. Further research is needed to develop sustainable and effective intervention strategies.
